OUR MANDATE
The Kimberley Trails Society was formed in 2009 to:
Facilitate the protection, maintenance and development of primarily non-motorized trails, in Kimberley and the surrounding area, by working with community groups, government and other stakeholders for the benefit of all trail users.
The Kimberley Trails Society coordinates a high quality and sustainable network of trails in Kimberley and the surrounding area, through strong relationships and collaboration with land managers and other stakeholders. We promote the value of trails to the community and visitors, and the importance in maintaining and protecting our trails for the future. We assist in the recognition of our trail network as a valuable and essential part of an active, healthy, and attractive community.
A LITTLE HISTORY
Over the years Kimberley has developed a fantastic network of trails, primarily through the efforts of a few dedicated individuals. These intrepid trailblazers worked on "unofficial" trails, and in some cases these trails were lost through logging, access closure, or just simple decay.
In May 2009, a bunch of local trail enthusiasts met with the intention of forming an organized group that could harness energy to build and maintain trails, as well as work toward getting official recognition and permission for existing unofficial trails. And thus the Kimberley Trails Society was born. By combining forces with the Alki/Pyramid Trail Crew and the Friends on Lois Creek, KTS was able to work with Rec Sites and Trails BC to get official recognition for these important trail networks.
