THE PROGRAM ------------------------------------- Welcome Opening (10 min): from the Kimberley Trails Society and the Bike Park Committee It's fun - Short (4 min): "Ever been to Crankworx? Chances are, if you ride a mountain bike, it's either on your bucket list or an annual tradition. Join the Forbidden crew of Liam Baylis, Dylan Siggers (Fernie), Zak Mouseau (new member of the KTS Trail Crew!), and Sophie Perrault as they share their unique perspective on Crankworx Whistler. It's not only races, it's all about friends, riding bikes and having fun. Flip the switch (4 min): "If you don’t have role models to look up to, it’s harder to progress as a rider." Georgia Astle grew up chasing her older brother. “If he could do it, I could do it” she figured. But that could only take her so far. As Geo developed as a racer, she learned to push herself. She got comfortable “flipping the switch” and pushing against the clock. But when Geo looked beyond racing, there weren’t a lot of women pushing the limits of freeride. Until all of a sudden, there was. Watch Georgia explore some of British Columbia’s most striking landscapes, on a search for terrain to push her riding, inspired by a rising tide of female freeriders around the world. Bike Park Project Update (15 min): We will present updates, timelines, announced new partners and significant grant funding, and a summary of future construction efforts. The Pass (14 min): Rogers Pass represents one of the most complicated avalanche control programs in the world. Ski touring through its storied terrain is only possible thanks to the visionary mountain guide who architected the ski system years ago, and the woman she mentored who’s now at the helm of that avalanche program. The stakes are higher than most skiers could ever imagine. ------------------------------------- Intermission (30 min): Get social, grab a drink (pops and Overtime beer will be available for sale) and check all the surprises KTS has put together for you. ------------------------------------- Sponsor Raffle (10min): We will be raffling door prizes from our amazing sponsors and local businesses, and will have a draw for one BIG Prize... something that everyone want!!! Free, in your body (9 min): A personal video journal from the 2023 winter season - Fernie local Dylan Siggers just released his new short film - all shot on analog film: "I chose to shoot it entirely on analog film. Forcing a new sense of attentiveness to our decisions, and acceptance of failure for each roll of film. Shooting on film forces myself and my friends to learn lessons outside of only the mechanics of the camera. With that came a sense of freedom for creativity in what we shot. Allowing me to point the camera at what felt important to myself, not only what I thought people would want to see on screen at the end of the year. With that, I created something of a personal journal entry; about my closest moments with friends and family throughout the winter. Taking time to just do something and get out of it, and feel Free, in your body. The Balkan Express (40 min): The mountaineers Max Kroneck and Jochen Mesle book a one-way train ticket from Munich to Thessaloniki - and start their way back home by bike and ski. Along the route they explore the mountains of the Balkans, look for the most beautiful ski runs and get to know the local mountain communities. The award-winning documentary captures their personal experiences from over 2.500km on the road. A challenging adventure across ten degrees of latitude and a respectful approach to some of the wildest mountains in Europe.
